Metabolic typing is a science that helps determine which foods and food combinations are right for your unique metabolism. It is a system designed to optimize whole body health. Changes and adjustments to diet and the use of nutritional supplements are used to address the individual at a fundamental metabolic level. When metabolic imbalances are corrected, it allows for increased energy, weight loss and a greater resistance to disease.
An individual’s Metabolic Type is determined by conducting a series of simple tests. Those tests can be performed in a clinical setting or at home with a simplified 'Self-Test Kit'. Once you understand the fundamental way in which your body produces and processes energy, you can knowingly select the foods and nutritional supplements that are tailored to your specific metabolism.
Many diets claim to promote energy and weight loss, and even though some are initially successful, they only work effectively long term if they are compatible with your Metabolic Type. This explains why one person can lose weight on a particular diet, say a strict vegetarian diet, while another might gain weight and feel exhausted all the time eating exactly the same foods! Even though good quality foods are essential to everyone’s well being, not all foods and supplements are equally good for all people. Metabolic Typing is the missing link that explains how one person's food may literally be another’s poison.
Knowing your Metabolic Type can be a very useful and powerful tool. It is often an important piece to our personal health puzzle. I do not personally offer the true Metabolic Typing test. I have chosen to keep the focus of my practice on fitness and basic nutrition as it relates to weight loss goals and exercise in general. A girl can’t do it all! So even though I use a questionnaire based on the more detailed Metabolic Typing test, it is not sufficient to determine your actual Metabolic Type. But it is enough to determine your metabolic 'tendency' and therefore make better food choices.
If you are interested in a detailed and true Metabolic Typing evaluation, I highly recommend you see one of my two good friends James Haig or Marina James. Whether you chose to work solely with me or to team up with the Metabolic Typing Superstars will mostly depend on your goals and current health status and challenges. Together we can determine which option is best for you.

Summer 2005 ::
Remembering Dr. Harold Kristal, Metabolic Typing
Pioneer
Dr. Kristal was a pioneer in the field of Metabolic Nutrition and for many years ran a clinic right here in San Rafael. He was a dentist for over fifty years before fully committing to pursue his long standing interest in nutrition. Practicing nutrition along with dentistry, Dr. Kristal explored various nutritional systems before discovering the landmark work of George Watson, the formulator of the oxidative theory on which one branch of Metabolic typing is based on. After working successfully with this system for some time, Dr. Kristal partnered with Bill Wolcott, the formulator of 'Metabolic Testing'. This was the beginning of a fruitful association, which has led to a continual refinement of the Metabolic Typing testing protocols used today. Dr. Kristal occupied his work time with writing, giving seminars, and seeing private clients at the clinic.Dr. Harold J. Kristal passed away in the summer of 2005. He died peacefully, at home, surrounded by his children, shortly after midnight on Thursday, August 18th, 2005. All who knew him will remember his warmth, kindness, and dedication to his work... Having had the privilege of working in his clinic, I know the lightness of his step and twinkle in his eye will always be in our heart!
